Sensei Callum Dick 5th Dan Godan
I Started training under Frank Sargent in Glenrothes Jubilee Centre in 1982
after sustaining some bad rugby injury's and realised I needed a change of sport, I was
looking for something else which involved hard training but was a bit safer. I happened
to be in the local community hall for some reason while a Goju Ryu Karate class was in
progress and became fascinated by the moves of the kata. After the class I approached
Sensei Frank and he had his son Tommy Sargent who was 11 at the time, demonstrate the
kata seyunchin. I just could not believe such a young boy could perform such a complicated
array of moves and decided if he could do it then so could I and started training.
I took over the club when Frank Sensei semi retired as the club coach in 1995
and moved it back from the Fife institute of Recreation to the Stenton Jubilee Center were
it had originally been.
Frank Sensei is still active as my coach and oversees grading standards and procedures.
My goal with the club is to maintain the high standards set for the students of the IOGKF
and increase the numbers training within Scotland.

Nidan Glenrothes, Scotland 2006 Under Callum Dick & Frank Sargent

We remain open 46 weeks of the year.
The only dates we will be closed are:
- The Glasgow fair fortnight, which is the last two weeks in July.
- Two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.
- Two weeks one in April and one in October during school holidays.

- Every student should attend a MINIMUM of 20 lessons (between grades) to qualify for the next grading.
- Stripe testing will be every month at the start of the week, to give a change to make up the stripe if the student missed the test day or was not up to standard.
- Any student not at the required standard will be offered one-to-one instruction so they can catch up. This can be during class time but with a dedicated instructor.
- The head instructor of the academy will invite any student to grade once they have reached the required standard to test. This means that not all students will grade at evey grading.
- You need six stripes to grade. Three for Curriculum and three for Black Belt Principles work sheets.
- The grade tests all curriculum, everything up to the last stripe test.
- The stripe test will last a maximum of 10 minutes and will be held informally within the class at no extra cost to the student.
- The grade test should take no more than one hour for children but may take up to three hours for adults, depending on the grade.
- Stripe tests are there to prepare a student to fully pass the next grade.
- Grade dates are three months apart and will be held on the last practical weekend in March, June, September and December each year.
- Grading fees include the cost of a belt.
- The Student License fee is fully paid.
