The SGKA held a training camp in Glenwood High School (main hall)
on October 8th & 9th from 10:30 – 2:00pm both days

This was open to all SGKA students and was an intense training course covering Jumbi Undo (warm-ups), basics(Kihon), Forms (kata) and Kumite (fighting drills). Look for pictures on www.sgka.org soon.

36 Students attended the two day event. The first hour and a-half was Instruction on proper form for Jumbi Undo or warmup exercises which are a vital part of preparation for fitness and proper form when training katas. This was followed by Kihon or basic technique practice both static and moving. After lunch we all split into four groups by grade and had specific training in the different aspects of Goju Ryu Karate, Kata, Kata bunki or fighting applications contained within the kata, kakie(stick hands) self defence techniques and basic Kumite san dan gi drills(fighting).

The instruction was given by all the black belts in the association everyone taking a different section of the training so giving an opportunity to develop coaching skills and pass on knowledge.
